Question of the Week: Pruning Fruit Trees

Q: When should I prune my fruit trees?

A: The optimal time for pruning is during the dormant season, typically in late winter or early spring, right before new growth kicks in. In regions like North and Central New Mexico, February to early March marks the prime pruning window. During this period, pruning wounds heal swiftly, flower buds are readily identifiable, and the risk of winter damage diminishes. While we don't offer pruning services, we recommend consulting with an arborist for expert care. Happy Springtime!
