Question of the Week: Pots!
Q: Do you sell pots? A: We get asked this all the time - we do not sell pots. There are several local businesses that sell beautiful pots, including Jackalope and the local nurseries.

Plant of the Week: Coffee Tree
Gymnocladus dioicus 'Espresso- JFS'
Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree
Zone 3 This shade tree can reach 50' tall and 40' wide, so make sure you have the space for it. With a nice globed canopy, you may find yourself spending lots of time resting under its shade. Rough, textured bark compliments the dark green foliage that stays green until they fall off. A slow grower that can live for 90+ years. Low maintenance.

Transformation Tuesday: Part IV - One of A Kind Rock Feature
This section of the client’s yard was off in the corner but that didn’t mean it couldn’t use a little work. The client had a brick patio that they never really used. They wanted the area to be softened up and some life brought to it. We put together a design for this area, and once the client approved, we got to work! The first step was to remove the brick. Next, we raked up the pine needles and leveled out the area. We designed the area to have a water feature with a very un
Question of the Week: Woody Lavender
Q: My lavender is getting woody and unsightly - is it possible to make it look better? A: It's ideal to give lavender a nice trim in the fall to help the lavender keep its shape and not get too woody. If your lavender has been neglected and needs more than just a trim, it can be cut down to 1/3 in the spring after the last frost.

Plant of the Week: Buzz Hot Raspberry
Hot Raspberry Dwarf Butterfly Bush
Buddleia 'Buzz Hot Raspberry'
Zone 4-9 A beautiful, compact variety of Butterfly bush. Raspberry-colored blooms with a sweet scent. A fast grower that can quickly reach 5' tall and wide. Plant in full sun and water on a regular basis for best growth. Blooms all summer long. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Easy to grow and low maintenance. Deadhead spent blooms for a cleaner look. Cut down to about a foot in late fall.

Transformation Tuesday: Part III - Custom Landscape Block
This area of the client's yard was mostly unusable. Railroad ties awkwardly divided this area, with large, 4-6" river rock taking up a large area of what could be functional space! The client did have a brick patio that was nice and in good shape. It was kept in place during the transformation. Everything else, except the plants, needed to go. Once we hauled out the railroad ties, river rock, gravel, and brick pathway (not the brick patio) it was time to add our touch to the

Pinion Trees and Pests
Happy July from Desert Rose!
In this month's blog, we will discuss methods of how to protect your pinion trees from pests. By just looking around town, you can see quite a few pinion trees struggling this year, mostly from needle scale. The scale not only makes the pinion trees ugly, but it can also kill branches and young trees. For mature trees, it can weaken the tree enough to allow other pests to attack the tree and kill it (like bark beetles). The main way to help prev
Question of the Week: Weeds Between Bricks
Q: What is the best way to remove weeds from in between a paver/brick patio? A: There are two effective and easy ways to remove the difficult-to-pull weeds. The first is to use a weed eater and carefully weed whack the weeds away. If you want a more permanent solution, use weed killer. However, be mindful that it can stain your paver/brick and may cause health problems if proper PPE isn't used and the directions aren't followed.

Plant of the Week: Copper Rose
Austrian Copper Rose
Rosa Foetida Bicolor
Zone 3-7 Once a year, beautiful red-orange blooms light up this stunning rose bush. A moderate grower that can reach 8' tall and 6' wide. Prune spent blooms for a cleaner look. Even though this only blooms once a year, this rose is a great addition to any yard. Plant in full sun and water regularly for best growth. Drought tolerant. Produces lots of suckers that can be cut to produce a cleaner-looking plant, or left alone to creat
