Transformation Tuesday: Backyard Glow-Up

It’s amazing what a little vision—and a lot of stone—can do.
This side yard once felt like a forgotten stretch of dirt and gravel. Metal edging hemmed in overgrown plants, and it lacked any real purpose or flow. But today? It’s an entirely new space designed for comfort, beauty, and privacy.
We started by clearing everything out: the metal edging, the gravel, and most of the existing plants. In their place, we installed a spacious flagstone patio perfect for lounging or hosting. We added a dedicated brick pad for a future hot tub and softened the space with fresh sod underfoot and a curved path of flagstone pavers that gently guides you through the yard.
To create more privacy and structure, we lined the wall with Blue Arrow junipers. Around the space, we introduced intentional plantings: a Montgomery blue spruce, Karl Foerster grasses, spirea, and a butterfly bush—all chosen for their beauty and resilience in Santa Fe’s climate.
Now, what was once just a side yard is a cozy retreat—lush, clean, and built to be enjoyed year-round.
